Re-Dispersible Emulsion & Powder

LIWEI CHEMICAL CO. LTD

What are Re-Dispersible Emulsion & Powder?

The history of re-dispersible emulsion and re-dispersible powder can be traced back to the development of polymer emulsions and dry powder building materials. Polymer emulsion, as an important chemical product, was widely used in the 20th century. As technology continued to advance, research began to investigate how the polymers in the emulsions could be preserved and transported in the form of dry powders for easier application in a variety of fields. This laid the foundation for the development of dispersible emulsions and dispersible latex powders. In the late 20th century, re-dispersible powder, as a new type of polymer dry powder building materials, began to be widely studied and applied. It mainly solves the inconvenience of traditional emulsion in the process of transport and storage, improves the application performance of the polymer in building materials, and gradually occupies an important position in the construction industry. At present, the preparation technology and application fields of re-dispersible powder are continuously expanded. In terms of preparation technology, researchers have improved the performance and stability of re-dispersible powder by optimizing the polymer synthesis method and improving the drying process. In terms of application fields, re-dispersible powder has gradually expanded from the initial mortar and plastering fields to more fields such as self-leveling floors, adhesives, and waterproofing materials. At the same time, the eco-friendliness of re-dispersible powder has also received more attention. By choosing environmentally friendly raw materials and preparation processes, researchers have reduced the environmental impact of re-dispersible powder during production and use and promoted its development in a greener and more sustainable direction. In summary, with the continuous progress of technology and the expansion of application fields, re-dispersible emulsion and re-dispersible powder play an increasingly important role in the construction industry.

What are the properties of Re-Dispersible Emulsion & Powder?

Re-dispersible emulsion & powder are based on the properties of latex polymers, which are treated by a specific process to give them re-dispersible properties. This property allows them to re-form stable emulsion systems when mixed into water, offering possibilities for a wide range of construction applications.
Re-dispersibility: When mixed with water, they disperse quickly and uniformly to form stable emulsions or suspensions. This property allows them to be used in a wide range of applications in various fields such as construction, coatings and adhesives.
Adhesion:Their molecular structure allows them to create strong adhesion with various substrates, resulting in good bonding. This property is particularly important in construction mortars, plasters and coatings to ensure construction quality and durability.
Water and weathering resistance: They maintain stable properties even in wet or harsh climatic conditions and are not easily affected by moisture or UV rays. This makes them ideal for applications such as external wall insulation systems, waterproofing materials and exterior coatings.
However, whilst they share many similar properties, there are some differences in form and how they are used. Dispersible latex is a liquid emulsion that can be mixed directly with water. In contrast, dispersible latex powder is a solid, powdery substance that needs to be mixed with water to form an emulsion before use.

What are Re-Dispersible Emulsion & Powder used for?

Re-dispersible emulsion and re-dispersible powder are both important building materials; they are used in a wide range of applications in construction, coatings, and other fields, which can improve adhesion, water resistance, and other properties of materials and increase construction efficiency.
However, they are similar in performance but different in form and specific application, which need to be decided according to the specific construction needs and use of the environment.
Firstly, Re-Dispersible Emulsion is an emulsion form material with good dispersibility and stability. It can be mixed with water to form a uniform emulsion system, which is widely used in the fields of architectural coatings, adhesives, sealing materials, and so on. With excellent adhesion, water resistance, and weather resistance, dispersible latex can improve the performance and service life of building materials.
Re-dispersible powder, on the other hand, is a latex polymer powder. It can be re-dispersed in water to form a stable emulsion with excellent adhesion, water resistance, and workability. Re-dispersible powder is widely used in the construction industry for making mortar, plaster, self-leveling floors, adhesives, and so on. Its advantage is that it is easy to transport and store, while it can be mixed with water to form emulsions of different concentrations as needed during use.

How are Re-Dispersible Emulsion & Powder produced?

The production processes for re-dispersible emulsions and re-dispersible powder, although different, both involve the synthesis of the polymer and subsequent processing steps.
Re-Dispersible Emulsion: Mix monomers such as ethylene, vinyl acetate, and acrylic esters with emulsifiers, water, and initiators, and then the emulsion is polymerized at specific temperatures and pressures. By controlling the polymerization conditions (e.g., temperature, pressure, stirring speed, etc.), the monomers are gradually converted into polymers, and a stable suspension of emulsion particles is formed. After the polymerization is completed, the emulsion is post-treated, including pH adjustment, neutralization, removal of unreacted monomers and oligomers, the addition of stabilizers and functional additives, etc., in order to improve the stability of the emulsion and the performance of the final product.
Re-Dispersible Powder: The production process of re-dispersible powders is relatively complex. Firstly, similar to re-dispersible emulsion, a polymer emulsion needs to be synthesised through a polymerisation reaction. Then, the emulsion needs to be spray-dried or freeze-dried to remove the water from the emulsion and obtain the polymer powder. During this process, the drying conditions need to be precisely controlled to ensure the particle size, dispersibility and redispersibility of the polymer powder. Finally, the powder undergoes post-processing steps such as sieving and packaging to obtain the final re-dispersible powder product.

What are the safety precautions for the use of Re-Dispersible Emulsion & Powder?

Re-dispersible emulsion and re-dispersible powder are non-toxic, odorless, non-polluting, and environmentally friendly products, but can pose potential health risks if toxic substances are added during the manufacturing process or if proper safety practices are not followed during use.
Appropriate protective equipment such as masks and gloves should be worn when using Re-Dispersible Powder, and the operating instructions in the product manual should be followed. In case of inadvertent contact with skin or eyes, flush immediately with water and seek medical help.
